Shivam Dube is one of the most promising young players in Indian cricket. The Mumbai all-rounder converted from left-hander to play the game with the right hand, rose from the brink at the age of 14 when he faced financial difficulties to winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup twice. Dube will play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is popular for his ability to deliver big hits against spin and his medium pace off-spinner’s delivery. Today (as of 2026), he is a two-time T20 World Cup winner, an integral part of the Indian T20 team and has even been retained by the IPL for a huge sum of ₹12 crore — well away from the boy who had to walk away from his beloved game.

Early life and Family Background
Shivam Dube was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 26th June 1993. His father Rajesh Dube, hails from Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh, and moved to Mumbai in search of work. Born in the financial district of Mumbai’s suburbs, Dube has nurtured his passion for the sport in the gullies and grounds of Mumbai. But the trip was by no means easy. He was only 14 when he had to leave the sport for a while, due to financial problems.
His father’s determination to his son’s future turned things around. Shivam’s long lost passion for cricket was rekindled under qualified coaching, which was funded by Rajesh. This was a momentous choice. But soon Dube transfered his raw power and talent into a disciplined game and progressed to become one of Mumbai’s most promising talents in home cricket.

Domestic Cricket Career
Shivam Dube made his debut in his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy on 7th December 2017. He had his maiden five-wicket partnership of the first-class format of the game for his debut season itself – he claimed five wickets in his first-ever appearance for Karnataka. He hit the ball out of the park quickly, from first to last, including a useful 71 at the plate, that’s when it became clear that he was a true all-round player.
His break out season in the domestic cricket was the 2018-19 Ranji season. On 2nd November 2018, he made his maiden first-class 100 for Railways. His seven wickets for 54 runs came in his next game against Karnataka shortly after which further consolidated his reputation as a bowler. In the same season, he was the highest wicket taker for Mumbai making 23 dismissals in 8 matches.
But, it was one over that caught the cricket world’s attention. Dube went on to hit five sixes in one over in a Ranji Trophy game against Baroda the day before the IPL auction in December, 2018. Incredibly, he had played for the Mumbai T20 league earlier this year too against the veteran leg-spinner, Pravin Tambe, and the organizers declared him the Player of the tournament in that league. The two times of huge hitting were what propelled him to the top of the auction list.
He played his first white-ball match in the 2015-16 season in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, thus getting his first exposure to white-balls in his early days. He showed his determination with his all-round numbers especially during his Ranji cricket career that he was set to take up the biggest platform.

IPL Career Journey : From RCB to CSK
Shivam Dube’s IPL journey started when he was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the hefty price of ₹5 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in December, 2018. He made his IPL debut on 23rd march 2019 against CSK at Chepauk in RCB’s colors. He did show his great potential on a couple of occasions but failed to establish himself in the RCB squad regularly over two seasons and wasn’t as prolific as the RCB wished to be in match-winning situations.
They picked him up for the club for ₹4.40 crore in 2021 for the Rajasthan Royals. Again, he was able to play one season but failed to make a breakthrough. His journey of turning point came in February 2022 when Chennai Super Kings purchased him in the IPL mega auction for ₹4 crores.
The change that took place at CSK was astounding. He was the highest run-scorer in the first season of his career with the team (2022) with a strike rate of 156.21. He was able to hit the ball to a higher level in 2023, scoring 418 runs with a strike rate of 158.33 to play a major part in CSK’s IPL win that year. In 2024, he continued the momentum with 396 runs at 162.30. He has hit 8 sixes and 5 fours, including a 102-metre six off Josh Hazlewood, to register his best IPL knock – 95 off 46 balls – against his former team RCB at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in April 2022.
It was definitely proof of how much he is wanted by CSK as he was bought for ₹12 crore for the 2025-26 season. He now has 86 matches in the IPL with an tally of almost 2000 runs and 10 half-centuries in the tournament.

International Career
Shivam Dube played in his first T20I match for India against Bangladesh in Delhi on November 3, 2019. Shivam, the Indian player made his ODI debut for India against West Indies on December 15, 2019 in Chennai. He also got decent starts in international cricket a couple of times in his early years but it was his consistency over years playing for CSK impressed the selectors..
Shivam played a fiery knock to return to international cricket: picking up a ‘1’ against England. Coming into bat in the fourth T20I in Pune needing 33 off 18 balls, he scored 53 off 53 balls. India won by 34 runs and Dube picked up the Man of the Match award – having been unable to bowl at all in the match due to suffering concussion at some point during the game. Playing against England in the fifth T20I of the series, he went 30/13 and took 2/11.. His ability to bowl as well as bat proved that he can be quite a true ‘all-rounder’.
Shivam took his best international bowling figures in the Asia Cup against UAE in September 2025 by taking 3/4, helping India bowl UAE out cheaply to take a huge advantage in the match. He also went on to take a wicket off first ball he bowled in his home city of Nagpur, followed by an unbeaten 36 from 18 balls including an exhilarating 100-metre six off Ish Sodhi in Raipur as India ran down 209 in just 15.2 overs against New Zealand in January 2026.
T20 World Cup Glory: 2024 and 2026
Shivam Dube is part of the elite club of being in two World Cup winning Indian squads. During the World Cup 2024 campaign, India were unbeaten throughout and Dube played important came-go innings when the team needed him most, scoring important hundreds. Though he wasn’t striking the ball as much as he is used to he knows how to hit it in the air and uses spin as a backup option, which made him so valuable to this tournament.
But what helped Dube make a name for himself in the world was the T20 World Cup 2026. He ended the tournament scoring 235 runs from 8 innings at a strike rate of 169.06. He hit 17 sixes during this whole tournament. One of his Player of the Match performances included scoring 66 runs off 31 balls while taking 2 wickets against the Netherlands. Against England in the semi-final, he had them 25 deliveries to make 43. He aided India to score 255; enough to win and claim the title for a record third time at T20 World Cup. India went on to beat New Zealand to win the tournament with Dube finishing not out on 26* off the last 8 balls.

Conclusion
Shivam Dube’s Biography is not a mere story about cricket, but one of the triumph of raw talent and unstoppable efforts over a perfect opportunity. He’s been the victim of financial struggles in almost walking away from the sport at 14, to two T20 World Cup victories and being valued at ₹12 crore in the IPL.
The most unique thing about Dube is how he has evolved. RCB bought him at a huge price tag of ₹5 crore, but he failed to make any impact in the IPL for three seasons. He was then provided by Then CSK with structure, clarity, trust and it followed soon after. His spinners, ability to get the ball into the boundary under pressure, and his ability to contribute with the ball, have made him a complete cricketer, rather than just a power-hitter.
He’s on the ground when it comes to his personal beliefs and values. The fact that after the World Cup win, Shivam Dube walked into the train home after having won the big game is a testament to his character. 2026 is going to be his best year ever because of a World Cup that just continuously gets better, a loving family and a net worth of ₹34 crore. The journey of Shivam Dube is far from just another batsman hitting the ball out of the park; it’s a story of redemption that is continuing to be shaped.
