In a recent legal development, the Calcutta High Court has ordered Indian Cricketer Mohammed Shami to pay Rs 4 lakhs every month to his ex-wife for her and their daughter’s monthly maintenance. This is the alimony money demanded because the couple got separated years ago. The order was delivered by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee on 1 July 2025.
Court’s Decision and Breakdown of Maintenance
The court order specified that Shami will pay Rs 1.5 lakh per month to his ex-wife, Hasin Jahan and Rs 2.5 lakh for his daughter per month. The court stated that this amount is appropriate for Hasin and her Daughter’s better lifestyle. Shami is one of India’s top cricketers and ranks among the premier fast bowlers of the world. He has earned a lot through his skills and hard work, out of which a small expense must be provided to them.
Other than this, the court also suggests that Shami can willingly contribute to his daughter’s education and future needs. This Rs 4 lakh is solely for the maintenance of his estranged family.
Background: What Exactly Happened Between Shami and Hasin Jahan?
Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan got married in 2014. Hasin Jahan was a model and a cheerleader for the Kolkata Knight Riders and attracted Shami’s attention. According to Hasin, she gave up her career after marriage at Shami’s insistence. They welcomed their daughter Aaira Shami in 2015. Everything was going great so far.
In 2018, Hasin Jahan filed a complaint against Mohammed Sami and his family, accusing them of domestic violence, dowry harassment, and even match-fixing. These allegations haunted Shami’s life for so many years. When the match-fixing matter was taken over by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Shami was restrained for the central contract on hold. After an internal investigation, he was cleared of the match-fixing charges.

Initially, Hasin Jahan approached the district sessions court. In 2023, the court ordered Shami to pay ₹50,000 per month to her and ₹80,000 for their daughter. As Jahan thought this was too low, she appealed to the Calcutta High Court for ₹7 lakh per month for herself and ₹3 lakh for her daughter.
In the High Court, Jahan’s legal team asserted that Shami’s financial position could support a larger maintenance amount. They indicated that Shami’s income tax returns for the year 2021 showed an annual income of about ₹7.19 crore, which is about ₹60 lakh per month. Jahan stated that her monthly expenses, both combined for herself and her daughter, exceeded ₹6 lakh.
Justice Mukherjee, while reviewing the maintenance amount, stated that the court considered Shami’s income, the future of the daughter, and the lifestyle Jahan had during the marriage. The court made it clear that the maintenance should be enough to take care of Jahan and her child’s future.

Though after the court’s verdict, she expressed that she is at peace right now, the amount was still less than what she had demanded. According to her, Shami forced her to quit her modelling career, and now she has the responsibility of her daughter; it was important for her to reach the court for immediate help. She accused Shami of neglecting his responsibilities as a husband and a father.
To respond, Hasin Jahan said, “Now I don’t have any money of my own. Shami has to take care of everything for our living. That’s why we went to court when he refused to do so. Thank God there is a law in our country that makes people responsible for what they owe.”
