SRH vs PBKS – Match Overview
The series was genuinely touted as a contest of Hyderabad batsmen and Punjab Kings bowlers as the latter won the toss, chose to bowl first, and Hyderabad proved the perfect target. Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head started with an attack intent and they were the first to target the PBKS bowlers..
Abhishek Sharma scored boundaries and sixes all around the ground and huffed and puffed while facing the ball before finally closing his innings at a mere 35 for 13. Unbeaten cameo by Nitish Kumar Reddy also got the Sri Ramada three-wicket win as they piled up a huge 235 run partnership for four wickets. Punjab Kings lost the game’s battle in the early stages as they fell for 236 in the very early stages with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh being eliminated in the initial few deliveries. Shreyas Iyer didn’t do his job either, as PBKS fell into trouble during the powerplay. Cooper Connolly, however, was one of the best batsmen of IPL 2026 and provided a sensational unbeaten century and kept Punjab Kings alive in the match. 202/7 for 33 runs from the allotted 20 overs.
Pbks vs Srh Match Scorecard
Sunrisers Hyderabad 1st Inning
Sunrisers Hyderabad began their chase with a razzmatazz loft, after the first delivery, when they were asked to come ahead and bat. The PBKS bowlers were out under pressure from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head since the first over and the pair threatened to run out match winners during the powerplay. His short and destructive 35-run 13-ball display came laced with fours and sixes (4 sixes) as Abhishek rattled sixes in the building.
It became a 50-run stand in just 20 balls and the duo totally turned the tide in their favour. Lockie Ferguson got Abhishek Sharma out, Yuzvendra Chahal thumped off Travis Head – both of whom had been a worry at the top – and succored their attackers.
Ishan Kishan then scored an aggressive knock in the middle overs, to run well the scoring rate. Powerful 6 hitting from just 28 balls, he got his fifty. Heinrich Klaasen assumed the wicket admirably and his attacking play and sixes took the game away from McCullum. Klaassen finished with his half-century off 32 balls and excelled in the death overs in company of Nitish Kumar Reddy. In a stunning 29-run unbeaten effort in 13 balls, Nitish hit a strong half volley that the Sharma family couldn’t defend to the boundary. In their opening 20 overs Sunrisers Hyderabad had a mammoth total of 235/4 with the finishing partnership.

Punjab Kings 2nd Innings Scorecard
Punjab Kings needed a flying start while chasing the massive target of 236 runs, but they suffered an early collapse. Priyansh Arya got his wicket off Pat Cummins in the last ball of the first over with Nitish Kumar Reddy taking Prabhsimran Singh in the following over. Soon the scoreboard was reading 4/2 and PBKS were put on the defensive.
But for long neither Iyer nor the skipper kept his wicket, as he was caught by Eshan Malinga. Marcus Stoinis had played an aggressive innings and scored 28 runs from only 14 balls, but their team lost wickets at the other end consistently.
Cooper Connolly made an extraordinary effort with the bat and almost single-handedly took Punjab Kings home in the pursuit. Connolly was attacking both the pacers as well as the spinners with confidence and produced a 34-ball half tonic. Not only did he continue his scintillating play but he went on to complete a fantastic century in only 57 balls.
Suryansh Shedge went big in the middle order with a 25 while Marco Jansen scored 19 runs in the bottom order. But in the final overs, it was Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers who had a field day. Pat Cummins and Shivang Kumar also gathered two big wickets each, and added two of their own in the crucial moments of the pursuit.
Yet, Punjab Kings could not get any further than 202/7 in 20 overs with Cooper Connolly unbeaten on 107, and lost the game by 33 runs.

Conclusion
The encounter between SRH and PBKS in the IPL 26 match was a batting display with some thrilling cricket moments. Sunrisers Hyderabad played an explosive batting line-up as most of their top order batsmen put important runs on the scoreboard. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head started the game brilliantly before Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen barnstormed the middle overs of the innings. Punjab Kings implosion fiasco in the opening overs of the pursuit haunted by the fall of multiple wickets within the powerplay was the other factor that cost dearly.
Thanks to some unblemished creativity, Cooper Connolly managed to make juicy centuries, but the noobie partnership saw the departure of the required rate become too steep. Pat Cummins was again an exemplary leader and played important shots on the ball to stay in control during the pursuit. He was able to get help from Shivang Kumar and Nitish Kumar Reddy with sharp wickets at the right moment as well. Sunrisers Hyderabad have got two important points in IPL 2026 and boosted their IPL 2025 campaign with the win.
