His most memorable early innings came however, in the England tour later that year when he had smashed 72 off only 28 balls; an innings that immediately made it known that he was a match-winner. Also, his one-handed catch to dismiss Moeen Ali on the same tour was quite spectacular and garnered much publicity. It was the best catch in the T20 international cricket as posted by ESPN Cricket in South Africa.
In 2024, he featured in the South African team in the T20 world cup in the West Indies and USA where the Proteas were in the final. By 2026, Stubbs has played in 52 T20Is, with a total of 967 runs on an average of 30 with a highest score of 76.

Tristan Stubbs IPL Teams: An entire journey
An example of how a one-season of scintillating achievements of an athlete can transform the overall value of his or her franchise market is the case of IPL career of Tristan Stubbs. The following list gives a complete list of all the teams which he has represented in IPL.
Mumbai Indians (2022–2023)
Before making his debut in the T20I, Stubbs was signed by the Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement to fast bowler Tymal Mills at his base price of just ₹20 lakh, in May 2022. His debut season contributed very little as he played only two games and had little to no runs. In 2023, he was once more detained by Mumbai at the same low price, but there were not as many opportunities. But it was that IPL camp experience, which saw him working with the world-class players, that certainly assisted him to grow.
Delhi Capitals (2024 – Present)
This was turned around when the Delhi Capitals managed to purchase Stubbs at a cheap price of ₹50 lakh during the December 2023 IPL auction. The transfer can be considered as one of the most brilliant in the IPL history. Stubbs immediately became the second-highest run-getter in the history of DC with 378 runs (13 innings) at an incredible average of 54.00 and with a strike rate of 190.90 – and with a highest score of 71 star and three half-centuries. It was that season he was able to become one of the deadliest T20 finishers in the world.
Delhi Capitals would then retain him at ₹10 crore before IPL 2025 and this is 20 times his value after a single round of auctions. Being the scheduled completion of DC in 2025 Stubbs had a list of 300 runs in 13 innings with a 150.75 strike rate. This is also a ₹10 crore that he was retained on ahead of IPL 2026 and this makes him a building block of the franchise.
Batting Approach and Style of play
Tristan Stubbs is an attacking batsman, who plays mostly in the middle order and at death in T20 cricket (he is a right-handed player). A unique blend of sheer power, pure ball-striking and an outstandingly broad repertoire of novel shots in his age group characterize his batting. The scoop, switch hit, and reverse paddle are as natural to him as the orthodox drive and pull – so that he is now very hard to bowl at, when the field is set out in the last overs.
The most effective thing about Tristan Stubbs bat job is that he is able to analyze a situation in a game and change his pace depending on the situation. He can build the runs at what would be considered a decent strike rate when the situation requires it then go off in the back five/six overs with a strike rate that is far in excess of 180. The fact that he scored 72 on 28 balls against England and that his strike rate on 2024 in the IPL is 190.90, both attest to his finishing abilities.
Stubbs is a good wicketkeeper, and is a very athletic and reliable one. His reflexes, quick feet and gentle hands assure his captains behind the stumps especially to spin. He has also provided some right-arm off-break bowling, which only offers him a utility option, which further solidifies his position in T20 teams. Also, his fielding, particularly his skills in making spectacular catches, has already given rise to some of the most memorable instances of his career already, most notably, the one-handed catch of Moeen Ali in the England T20I series in 2022.
He is a right-handed batter and prefers slightly higher sweet spot bats to help him get the natural upswing with the ball, but has not officially promoted a particular brand of bat as of 2026.
